ABOUT

Ariel Wang is a Taiwanese-American community organizer and storyteller based in Seattle, Washington.

Ariel currently leads marketing and communications at Nippon Foundation Ocean Nexus, a research institute devoted to ocean social equity. She believes in the transformational power of storytelling through design. Her unique combination of experience in environmental science education and design shapes how she approaches storytelling in this digital age.

At Ocean Nexus, Ariel spearheaded a major branding initiative, consolidating and presenting the institute’s comprehensive body of work into a single website. Collaborating closely with program office leadership and interaction designer Nayon Kim, she directed the development of the Oceannexus.org website project, crafting a cohesive visual identity and narrative centered on advancing ocean equity research.

Previously, Ariel directed marketing for the Nature in the City Map and produced designs recognized as resources for nature engagement on The New York Times and at SFMOMA. At Yosemite National Park, Olympic National Park, and the Presidio Trust, she taught environmental science outside; subsequently, she produced bilingual English/Mandarin environmental social equity programs based on her field observations in partnership with the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy and People of the Global Majority in the Outdoors, Nature, and Environment.

Before joining Ocean Nexus in 2022, she translated ideas into compelling digital stories to help scale operations at Gensler, a global design firm with 50 offices worldwide.

Ariel is a first-generation college graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned her Double Major degree in Media Studies and Political Science.

These days, she is living her dream life in the Pacific Northwest. When the tide is out, Ariel enjoys cooking and harvesting shellfish like oysters and clams to eat.
